42nd Anniversary Jack London Awards – July 26, 2015 – Oakland California

42nd Anniversary Jack London Awards — July 26, 2015–Oakland California

Excitement permeated Oakland on the weekend of July 25th and 26th as CWC members assembled from around the state to celebrate its history and volunteers.  The fun began at 1:00 pm at the Fire Circle in Joaquin Miller Park with the annual picnic and LitCake competition.  The location has special historical significance for the California Writers club as the exact spot that author, Jack London, poet George Sterling, California’s first poet laureate Ina Coolbrith, and other writers gathered in the early 1900s to eat, drink and read their writing. These meetings led to the formation of the California Writers Club.  The Jack London Award winners were celebrated the following day, July 26th, at the Central Board Meeting. Click on the Local History Tab for more information about Joaquin Miller Park.
